We believe that good design helps improve quality of life through the careful balance of human intervention of natural environments and redevelopment of existing urban fabric. With this in mind, our community planning experience covers a wide range of project types and scales, with a focus on natural area preservation and sustainable community growth.
Community Planning
We are interested in projects that aim to benefit communities while maintaining an important dedication to the preservation of the environment. As Registered Professional Planners across central and western Canada, we are well versed in preparing statutory and non-statutory planning instruments for communities of all sizes. We believe in easy access to recreation, which is why we strive to maintain strong pedestrian connections throughout communities, cities and regions. As placemakers, we at EDS strive to establish strong sense of community and identity through robust community engagement, research, and comprehensive planning programs.
EDS places a strong emphasis on community engagement, bringing local knowledge of residents and other stakeholders as an integral part of planning and design. We are firm believers in embracing local knowledge and empowering stakeholders throughout design and implementation processes through an array of engagement strategies. Our team develops highly customized engagement processes for each project, and have proven the value of meaningful involvement of local residents and project stakeholders. Ranging from traditional open houses to multi-day design charettes and web-based engagement, EDS has proven the value of using local knowledge throughout any design and implementation process.
